Bicycle Commuting
Suck Creek are the local experts on bike commuting and setting up a commuter bicycle. Come see us for a retrofit or a complete custom build using old or new parts. Older road bike frames and wheelsets with slacker angles and wider clearance make a great base on which to build your commuter. We’ve put together quite a few 7-speed bikes that customers love for riding to work or Riverwalk cruising.
Of course, we also carry versatile bikes from Jamis and Specialized that are intended for getting to and from the old 9-to-5
Though you can, of course, use most any bicycle to commute to and from work, In general, you’ll be more comfortable and safer with:
- a more upright riding position with moustache or pullback bars and a wider seat
- mountain bike brake levers — more power and feel than road bike levers
- mid-width, low rolling resistance tires with reflective sidewalls — roll over potholes, gravel, curbs…
- front and rear LED lights and reflectors — see and be seen
- rack and panniers — carry your stuff… clothing, groceries, etc.
- fenders — not only great when it rains, but after a shower when the streets are still wet
Either drop by the shop to check out our bikes, or see our commuter bike display at Greenlife Grocery on Manufacturers Road in Chattanooga.
