The 2027 Orbea Carpe 25 28mph is a Class 3 urban e-bike on a hydroformed 6061 alloy frame with a full carbon fork, a Shimano EP600 mid-drive making 85 N·m, and a 420Wh battery integrated into the downtube. It runs Pirelli Cinturato All Road Classic 700x45c tubeless-ready tires and leaves the rack and fenders off. {{PRICE}}.
The 25 Versus The 20
Start here, because the two bikes are closer than the model numbers suggest and the difference is not what most people assume. The frame, the carbon fork, the EP600 motor, the 420Wh battery, the display, the charger, the entire CUES drivetrain, the brakes, the wheels, the saddle, the seatpost and every geometry number are identical between the 25 and the 20. Nothing about how this bike accelerates, climbs or handles is different. What the 25 leaves off is the rear rack, the mudguards, the kickstand as standard equipment, and the cockpit headlight. What it adds is a noticeably better tire. This is not a cheaper bike with worse parts. It is the same bike with the cargo hardware removed.
The Tires
Pirelli Cinturato All Road Classic in 700x45c, tubeless ready. This is the single upgrade the 25 has over the 20 and it is the part you feel every time you ride. The Cinturato rolls faster on pavement than the touring rubber on the 20 while still carrying puncture protection for broken city surfaces, and at 45c it has enough air volume to take the edge off rough asphalt without a suspension fork. Tubeless ready matters on a commuter more than on a race bike, because the flats you get commuting are small punctures that sealant closes before you notice them. We will set them up tubeless if you want.
The Motor And Battery
Shimano EP600 mid-drive, 85 N·m, tuned by Orbea for urban riding rather than trail use, which means it wants to accelerate hard from a stop and hold a steep street without you dropping to a crawl. Mid-drive matters here: the motor turns the chainring, so the bike keeps a normal cassette, a normal chain and a normal derailleur, and it puts the weight low and centered instead of hanging off the rear axle. The 420Wh battery lives inside the downtube rather than clamped to it. A 252Wh range extender is available if you need more. Display is a Shimano EN500, with the EN600 cycle computer available as an upgrade.
The Frame And Ride
Orbea calls the frame design Twin Glide, and it does two jobs at once. Dropping the junction where the seat tube meets the frame leaves a longer length of exposed seat tube, reinforced by a double-tube structure, so the post can flex and absorb road buzz without giving up stability. The same lowered junction cuts standover height, which makes getting on and off easier in traffic and at lights. The carbon fork handles the front end. On a bike with no suspension anywhere, those two things plus 45c tires are what stand between you and a rough street.
The Drivetrain
Shimano CUES U4000, nine-speed, running a SunRace 11-46t cassette against a 44t alloy chainring with a guard, and a KMC eGlide chain built for the torque a mid-drive puts through it. Nine speeds instead of twelve is the right call on a commuter: wider spacing, thicker chain, longer service life, and parts any shop can get. Braking is Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc. None of this is exotic, and that is the point. Every wear part on this bike is a standard Shimano part we can source and fit without waiting on a proprietary supply chain.
Make It Yours
The Carpe configures through Orbea's MyO program, which is more useful on a commuter than on a race bike. You can specify a folding stem and folding pedals if the bike has to live in a hallway or ride a train, add a front carrier with a basket, add a kickstand, fit a frame lock, add the range extender, or move up to the larger display. Ask us and we will work through a configuration against how you actually ride, which takes longer than buying off the floor but gets you a bike that fits your commute rather than an average one.
Riding It Here
We are a mountain bike shop, so it is fair to ask why this bike is on our floor. The answer is that Chattanooga is a hilly city with a lot of short trips in it, and an 85 N·m mid-drive turns those hills into nothing. The 25 is the version for someone who wants that as a fast bike rather than a hauler, and who would rather add a rack later if they ever need one than carry it every day. We already service e-bikes, so it stays running here rather than going back in a box. Come ride it. We will fit it, set the assist to something sane, and send you out on it.
