The 2027 Orbea Denna M20 28mph is a carbon electric gravel and all-road bike built on Orbea's Denna OMR frame with a full carbon fork, powered by a Shimano EP801 RS mid-drive making up to 85 N·m against an integrated 420Wh battery. Mechanical Shimano GRX RX822, Oquo Road Control wheels, and clearance for 50c tires. {{PRICE}}.
The Motor, And Why It Matters
Most electric gravel bikes are lightweight hub-drive machines. A small motor in the rear wheel, modest torque, meant to take the edge off rather than change what is possible. The Denna is the other kind. The Shimano EP801 RS is a full-power mid-drive putting up to 85 N·m through the bottom bracket, which is mountain bike torque on a drop-bar bike. Orbea runs its own firmware tune on it called RC, short for Road Control, developed so the power arrives smoothly enough to keep the rear tire hooked up on loose gravel instead of spinning it. The practical difference is that a loaded climb on a forest service road stops being a question of whether you have the legs. Orbea claims up to 3,500 metres of climbing from the 420Wh battery in its most efficient mode.
Mechanical, On Purpose
Shimano GRX RX822 with RX820 levers, cable-actuated, running a 10-45t 12-speed cassette and RX820 hydraulic discs. Within the Denna range this is the mechanical build, and the trims above it are where the electronics live: the M20i goes to GRX Di2, the M31e to SRAM Rival XPLR AXS. Mechanical is not the consolation here. You already have one battery on this bike to keep charged. Adding two more in the shifters, on a machine meant for long days a long way from a wall socket, is a choice rather than an upgrade. A cable and a barrel adjuster can be fixed at the side of a road with a multitool.
The Frame And Fit
Orbea Denna OMR carbon, with a full carbon OMR ICR fork, internal cable routing and a 12x142mm thru axle. The layup is tuned to flex vertically over rough surfaces while resisting lateral flex, so the bike absorbs chatter without feeling vague when you put power through it. Geometry is endurance road rather than slack adventure: a 71 degree head angle in the middle sizes, 425mm chainstays at every size, and 400mm of reach with 592mm of stack on the large. That combination is worth understanding before you buy, and the next section is honest about it. Fender mounts and two bottle mounts are on the frame. Rear pannier mounts are on the alloy Denna H, not this one.
The Tires And Clearance
It ships on Pirelli Cinturato Gravel H in 700x45c, tubeless ready, on Oquo Road Control RC25PRO wheels. The H tread is the hard-pack pattern, which is the right call for the mix most people actually ride: pavement to reach the dirt, then packed forest road. The frame clears up to 50c, which is the number that gives this bike two personalities. Put 40c on it and it is a fast all-road bike. Put 50c on it and it will go places that look like mountain bike terrain. We stock both ends of that range and will talk through which one fits your routes.
How It Compares
The honest version: this is a fast endurance road bike that accepts gravel tires and a strong motor, not a slack drop-bar adventure rig. The 71 degree head angle and 425mm chainstays make it quick-steering and efficient, and they make it less composed on a steep loose descent than a dedicated gravel bike with a slacker front end. If your riding is long mixed-surface days with real pavement in them, that geometry is the right answer and the motor makes it a different sport. If your riding is chunky singletrack on drop bars, look at the Terra instead. Within the Denna range, the carbon M20 is the mechanical entry: the M20i and M31e add electronic shifting, and the alloy Denna H builds come in lower and add rear pannier mounts if you are loading it for touring.
Riding It Here
This region is a good argument for this bike. Gravel around Chattanooga and up through the North Georgia corridor means long climbs with pavement connectors between them, and that is exactly the terrain where 85 N·m changes what you can do in an afternoon. It is also the bike that lets someone keep riding with a faster group, or keep riding at all after an injury or a few years. Come in and ride it. We will set the position properly, show you how the RC tune behaves on loose ground, and sort the tire choice against the roads you actually ride.
