Riding Trails & Ring Tossing At Dirt Fest WV

Recently I went to Dirt Fest - WV Edition, a festival event put on by the fine folks at Dirt Rag magazine. So did over 800 other mountain bikers! This great three-day festival in Big Bear, West Virginia had a full schedule of group rides and events, with live music playing often throughout the weekend.

The trails surrounding the Dirt Fest home base were rooty tech, pine needle covered, with lots of moss and ferns and loam! A huge downpour on Friday made the riding seem especially West Virginian, fun and challenging, with sketchy slick roots, drops, rocks, and occasional mudslides!

Not as easy as it looks...

Our ring toss game at the Massanutten Bike Park tent was a hit. Competitors tried to toss a trashed rim and an old rotor onto a handlebar driven into the ground.

Many industry folks came out to represent at the vendor strip, which is definitely my favorite kind of mall!

Forming up for a Ladies Group Ride...

The Massanutten crew hosted a few skills clinics and women’s group trail rides, which all had big turnouts! I was psyched to see lots of folks enjoying their Salsa demo rides. 3-inch and wider tires were expecially popular as they offered more traction on wet tech.

If you are mountain biker who likes to socialize and sample trails, you owe it to yourself to attend next year's Dirt Fest West Virginia gathering. You'll get to taste some true WVA riding!
